Q: Why should a homeowner or business person alway make sure they are dealing with a licensed and insured company or individual?

A:  Because it is important for your family and business safty.  An unlicensed company or individual have not completed the state required classes, job experiance and testing in order to hold a state contractors license.  In most cases they are not insured, and you will not be covered by your homeowners or business insurance in the event of damage or death due to faulty workmenship, or accidents or fires.  You may get work perfomed for less money by an unlicensed individual.  However, you will be the one to pay in the future if there is a problem.

ASK TO SEE THE STATE LICENSE.
ASK TO SEE A CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE.
ASK FOR A WRITTEN WARRENTY.
ASK FOR A WRITTEN SCOPE OF WORK AND CONTRACT.

These things are your right under state law.

Q: Who should pull permits for work performed in the Commonwealth of Virginia?

A: State licensed contractors.  A homeowner may pull a permit only if they are performing the work themselves.  The homeowner may pull a permit if they have a licensed tradesmen sign an affadit, stating they are performing the work.

Q: Can a tradesmen use someone elses license to perform work.

A: No, that is against state law and false information.  There are penaltiies to pay if this activity is discovered.

Q: Why should I test, inspect and maintenance my electrical equipment on a regular basis?

A: The deterioration of electrical equipment is an inevitable process, but failure is not. Regular maintenance can identify and solve minor problems that can result in complete malfunction if left unidentified.

Q: Do you charge for estimates?

A: No. All residential and commercial customers are entitled to one free estimate per electrical project.

Q: Do you offer a warranty for your work?

A: Yes. All of our new electrical products come with manufacturer warrantees, and our maintenance work is covered by a one-year parts and labor warranty.

Q: Do you sell refurbished electrical equipment?

A: No. FATHER and Son Electric Service Co., Inc. only sells and installs new electrical equipment.
